There's the attraction of mystery, as well as the association with Hollywood glamour. Also, the need for prescription glasses can be disguised with sunglasses. Sunglasses will NOT make you look good if they are the wrong size, color, or shape for your face, though, so it's good to bring a friend with you and try on lots of pairs before you spend serious money on them, or get a prescription pair.

Hiding one's eyes has implications in face-to-face communication: It can hide weeping, being one of the signs of mourning, makes eye contact impossible which can be intimidating, as in the stereotype of the guardian of a chain gang, or can show detachment, which is considered cool in some circles. Darkened sunglasses of particular shapes may be in vogue as a fashion accessory. Note that normal glasses are very rarely worn without a practical purpose — curiously, they can project an image of uncool nerdiness that sunglasses do not have. The impact on nonverbal communication and the cool image are among the reasons for wearing sunglasses by night or indoors. People may also wear sunglasses to hide dilated or contracted pupils or bloodshot eyes (which would reveal drug use, or recent physical abuse (e.g. punching in face, particularly in ladies), or to compensate for increased photosensitivity.

Maybe it's simply because it gives the people who wear the sunglasses confidence, and we all know that confidence is attractive.

I think it's because a lot of the signs of ageing show up around your eyes first (crows feet, dark, puffy circles) and a pair of sunglasses handily covers all that up.

b'cos when they have them on your imagination fills in the blanks and you can imagine them any way you want. usually this happens subconciously - how many times ahve u seen someone wearing shades and thought 'wow, they're ugly!'. not v often i bet, its cos your subconcious is creating a mental image that would be pleasing to you, even if u couldnt really describe it.

Though initially used to protect the eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation and glare from bright lights, they are widely considered a fashion accessory.More details at http://eye-care.in/sunglasses.html

I don't know, I have honestly thought of that to because there was this girl on American Idol who looked really pretty with her shades on and then when she took them off it was like put them back on! lol...she wasn't bad looking but looked alot better with them on. I guess since it disgueses half of your face (esp if they're super big)....But I have thought of that too....I think tis because eyes are everything....Like when people don't want their idenity to be known they just put a black bar in front of their eyes and you dont know who it is...I guess its sort of like that...
