I have been using the YaHoo! Health Pregnancy Calendar on my yahoo page. When I enter my cycle duration as 28 days, why does it tell me to take a preg test on day 23 to test the level of HCG? Shouldn't I wait until day 28? I'm confused. Help! Thanks :)

Thanks, I just felt like Day 23 is jumping the gun - I wouldn'lt have had a chance to miss my period yet!

I actually ovulated early. I ovulated on day 10. Based on that, Should I be testing earlier?

It may be possible to get a positive result using an early home pregnancy test 4 or 5 days before your expected period, so that's probably why they tell you that. However, there is a high rate of false negatives when you test before your expected period because it takes a while for your body to build up enough HCG to be detected. Your results will be much more reliable if you wait until the day you expect your period (day 29, or if you ovulated early maybe day 28). Also, if you can be patient and wait to test, you don't have to spend money on the tests unless you actually miss your period! FertilityFriend.com has a really good explanation of test timing, see link below. Good luck! : )

Assumming you have a text-book cycle (which is what those calendars do) you would ovulate on day 14. So day 23 would put you 9 days past ovulation and about 53% of pregnant women will show positive at this time on a sensitive home test. Basically that is the very earliest you could test but you are correct that for near 99% accuracy you should wait til your on day 28 or later.

Waiting is definitely better. As the previous poster indicated, it also depends on when you ovulated. Keep in mind that, if you ovulated later than Day 14 (and many women do), even Day 28 might be a bit early. It's a good place to start though.

You can test 5 days before your period so that is day 23 but you have to buy a test that says result as early as five days I think clearblue or ept check at your local pharmacy best of luck .
