I'm a young work at a government job. I have a small office and it seems like the one of the other works at my job is scamming the system. Because of civil service laws she cant really be fired for any action she does. And she's done alot of different things Cursing out everyone inthe offce include the second in charge at my office. She doesnt get along with anyone here. She doesnt do any work and when something goes work with something she should have hanmdled she claims no one every told her that was part of her job.
Normally I dont pay attention to what other do and just do my work but when she doesnt do her work I'm always the one picking up the slack. Now everybody in the office is so use to depended on me to carry the office they let her just be a bump on a log.
The thing about it is that she still gets paid ok to do nothing while im busting my @ss to be a good employee. Maybe I should just slack like her and no care cause I cant be fired anyway.
What do you think?

If you can gather proof she is doing it - do so COVERTLY.

You may need this info in the future to hold against her. However, in public, make sure you stay out of her way. Give her enough rope and she will hang herself.

If you are the one picking up the slack, document EVERYTHING that you do. When a complex project comes up send your boss your documentation. When she takes credit for it, she will lose face. Keep doing this and she will be gone in no time.

Good luck.

I don't know how government jobs operate but once I worked in a doctor's office and was good friends with the manager. We would hang out after work. Once she told me that she was a cocaine user and was in therapy for help and had stopped using.I believed her and said nothing to anyone. Later my boss, the doctor, found out that I knew and didn't tell him. I almost got fired. So if what she is doing is harming the company someone needs to be told.By the way- the manager got fired.

Its pure politics. Don't mess with her. I can assure you that someone likes her or she wouldn't be there no one has guts to rid of her. But yes, you can be fired they just dont' want to dirty their hands. I retired in 05 from the same place you work and i have learnt through the years to keep quiet work hard and be proud of yourself. I have seen quite a few fired over the period of 20 years don't kid yourself. it may take abit of time but it can be done and if they want you out you can be gone. so be careful. why would you act stupid like her? you do your job well and be proud and when you retire you will know that you are good at what you do and help everyone. that is what people like she'll maybe go higher in grade but shes a loser in her own right. take care and be good.

You both can still be fired, even if it is a civil service job. Who is the supervisor here? Go to them and discuss your feelings and what is happening. If that does no good, go to their boss. Mention the word "discrimination" to them. I bet someone does something about it then!

No that wouldn't be a good idea to slack up on your job. Can you go to your boss and expalin what is going on? You should not have to work under those kind of stressors.

Take some holidays and let some one else pick up the slack, or write a anonymous letter to someone higher up. or tape her.

mention your feelings on the subject to your boss and maybe he can either make her work more or he could fire her for screwing with the system. it's worth a shot.
