I think the most true meaning of that question is: Can you be my lover just for today, February 14. True love transcends Valentine's day, but when someone only pays attention to you on Valentines, then they will probably ignore you for the next 364 days. With the exception of their birthday, because then they would want a present from you.

Well think about it Valentine's Day is Feb.14 that is ONCE a year...so you do the math. Then if they say "Can" you that makes them seem desperate.
