Why are USC graduates so much more proud of their school than graduates from other schools?
What's so good about USC? Why are USC graduates prominently displaying their USC graduate status in their car license plates, flags hanging outside their house and posters hanging on their cubicles? It seems USC alumnis are extra proud of their school compared to graduates from other schools. Why is that? Even UCLA graduates don't goto this extremes.

School places an emphasis on community spirit. Alumni network is strong. It's an advantage. They help their own. It's a good thing.

What's the big deal? It's a license plate frame. Have you seen someone from Notre Dame?

I went to USC for graduate school, and lemme tell ya, USC's alumni network is strong. I was only there for three semesters, and they're constantly sending me magazines in the mail, email notifications and stuff on MySpace (I know, weird, isn't it!)

Been there, did that, got the sticker on my car.

But what's important to me, and what I find more worthy of flaunting is my status as a UC Berkeley alumna. Got the license plate frame, the stuffed Oski toy, hoodie, gym shirt, and heck, Cal is why I own a blue car! I just signed up to review scholarship applications for prospective students. Cal might not send me anything more than the occasional email, but Golden Bears are a proud lot. I'm glad to be one.

Per the football remark, that's definitely a factor. When your school has a highly ranked team, it's easy to flaunt your affiliation. Merchandising increases, and there's more stuff sold in stores (not just campus stores, either). The school as a brand name becomes more recognizable to the people whose intellect might prevent them from attending such a school, but their addiction to televised sports makes them aware of such things. People want to represent the winning side. As long as the Trojans keep having good seasons, people will still hang the cardinal and gold decorations.

A real challenge is cheering for your school when the football team sucks. I went to Cal during the Tom Holmoe years. We cheered not because the team was doing well or had any chance of winning. We cheered because we were Golden Bears, and we were proud of EVERYTHING it stood for. Would've been nice to have won Big Game during my time there, though (screw Stanfurd).

Spoiled children from the University of Spoiled Children (USC) subscribe to the theory that "If you've got it, flaunt it." What they have is a snooty, snobbish, snotty personality, and welcome to it. Just ignore them for the irrelevant people they are.
