I didn't say "everyone" Indigo, I just said people, as in some people!

English has become the language of science and medicine, and if you go to college you need some English just to understand the courses. Americans particularly do not learn other languages so when dealing with them as the economic leader of the world, it helps to be able to converse in their language.

If you grew up in the United States and you cannot speak and write American English properly, and many cannot, you are not well educated, because American English is our language.

Because if you speak another language, you belong in Yahoo International. So either you are incapable of normal communication, or you are incapable of figuring out where you belong. Either way, not too smart, ie, poorly educated.

Why do people ask questions about "Why People....." when they are broad, sweeping generalizations?

I haven't ever run across a situation where this generalization occured.
