This really depends on the primary and secondary uses for the specific computer.

They are totally different processor family
32 bit
Core Duo : predominantly Laptop / cheep slow processor
64 Bit
Core 2 Duo :
Core 2 Extreme : Early 64 bit desktop
Core 2 Quad : Predominantly desk top or hi-end workstation processor
If you are looking for best Intel processor it will be quad core Xeon processor as fast buss speed, more on chip memory, and last but not least more money.

basically it depends on what way u wanna use ur computer but according to me Core 2 Extreme is good one
