I believe it is....but for the most personal of reasons...I believe that we carry genetic memories, and that when something happens, it "sparks" recognition from these memories. It may no be totally connected with the actual event..thus the "didn't happen" feeling. As for knowing someone? Again, that person may be so close..physically or in name....to someone else that you do know, or to someone that you carry a memory of, that a feeling of knowing them comes over you....deja vu...as someone else said.

That's what detectives run into all the time. People make assumptions or after hearing another account of a story, change their story to corroborate with the one they heard. Also, it's possible to remember someone you don't know. Assuming you believe in a "pre-existence" before earth life, it makes sense that someone you never knew in this life would look familiar, because you have met them--it was just a while ago. Also, sometimes it's hard to tell dreams from reality. I had one dream when I was a child that I'm not even sure if it's fiction or fact. I think it was a dream. Anyway, it's totally possible. It's gotta be. It happens to people all the time.

Scotch pines has a very interesting answer....which could almost be my answer.
Aku asked something similar to this one time. I have a couple of big things and a few smallish things that I remember clearly but I honestly don't know if they happened or not. No one else I tell this to remembers this occurance, and they think me bonkers.
I have memories of dreams and a couple of past life experiences...and things get blurry for me sometimes....if something didn't happen how can I remember it so well?
As for the remembering someone I don't know, I've thought about this a lot. I've had experiences of remembering people who I've never met before....like scotch p. they have come to me in a vision or I just have memories of people and I have no idea who they are.....it's really hard to explain.
I even met a couple of people and i knew that I knew them before. There was an instant recognition. I remembered them (squinting my eyes and thinking "I know you!"), and they say the same thing.
It's more of this fluid thingy. The more fluid and less solid things are becoming for me, the more areas of shade n mystery are appearing in my life, and also, memories of shady things I have forgotten are coming back. It's all rather strange!! hehhe.
Great question, Ugly Betty. (lol)

Yes it is and mainly it happens in your mind as some have said. Be it a word you thought someone said in a sentence, but they didn't. Or something happened so fast that you thought an event occurred in that time but didn't. Of course your memories over time can exaggerate the real events in some way.
As far meeting other people most times that's when you see a stranger that looks like someone you know. And when you meet him. You'll have the "Southwest Airlines will take you any where you want to go in the country" moment.

I think so ... I have areas of shade - whatever you want to call it - and when I examine them later, I realize that I am not sure in which dimension the event occured ///// and then I wonder if I dreamed them ... or if I do astral travel when asleep ... it is still unclear to me .... maybe some day I will be able to tell ...
I do know one thing: when I have certain types of experiences, they seem to re-energize me and I feel better afterwards.
Peace & Love
p.s. Yes, I do know people sometimes... it is because I have had visions of them before I met them .... and I think sometimes we see visions of people we never meet ... however I have never met an actual person that way ....... I often wonder if the people who have passed over to the other side can actually come near us... or it is just one of their travelling astral bodies ...
oh, well .... enough.... back to the sink with wash and rinse!!!

i think it is possible. kind of weird really. that's one of the favourite topic in our club, remember? :)
i sometimes remember things that have never happened. sometimes seeing things with open eyes, just getting lost in myself and remembering things that have never actually happened but it seems, the image or i dunno what to call it, the pictures that come are so clear it seems as if its a long lost memory. and when try to confirm it with someone they say i have definitely lost my marbles.
probably its because of imagining too much or dreaming too much or thinking too much or dunno what. i would really love to know why this happens.

Memory will tell you that something did happen It may be intellectual, emotional, sensory The question is whether one is capable of being objective and introspective or subjective and extrospective

theres this theory:
Bergson and his MIND at Large-that each person is capable of remembering all that has ever happened to him and of percieving everything thats happened in the universe, bc its suggested that the brain & nervous systems function is eliminative, not productive...meaning we have it to keep us from getting too overwhelmed by all that useless knowledge...

not logically.
but I believe it is. it's happened to me so many times that I've met someone for the first time. but I remember her/him like I've already met him/her.
I don't know how to explain this. but I think it's because we've lived in another world before being born.

If in reality, it DIDN'T happen, then you are not remembering anything. You could call it DeJaVu or just plain making things up in your mind.
Like the saying goes... if you keep lying to yourself, you'll soon believe it.
