Being happy with yourself: physically, mentally and emotionally.

Simply put it is ones own self worth and more so how you evaluate yourself. You could have great riches or be as poor as a Church mouse. Your economics have very little to do with self value. It also brings to mind how you treat other people. when you have low self worth then you are less tolerant of other, but when you think well of yourself then you are a lot more understanding. There is a funny thing about what I just wrote and that is when you make an effort to be kind and understanding even though your own self esteem is down it starts to to increase and the more the greater increase.

I'm so glad my graduate professor said what was on my mind: self-esteem is nonsense if the 1980's types persist, just telling the kids that they're OK no matter what.
No, you work for it.
You don't skip school, curse off your parents, refuse to bathe, do drugs, fail at life miserably, and then think you have the right to self-esteem.
But that's basically what the 1980's did to our youth.
And the parents bought in!
Now, many buy their kids anything and everything, to promote this nonsense!
To never make the kids FEEL badly.
Oh, please!
You have to EARN it!

Self-esteem is synonymous with self-respect, and that means living with purpose and moral obligation.

While I don't have to subscribe to someone else's version of morality, I'd better have one of my own and follow it. Respect is something that can only be earned, and that goes for self-respect as well as the respect of others.

Too often, I think that self-esteem is bandied about as some kind of "feel good about yourself" warm-fuzzy crap. Feeling good about oneself and a sense of self-esteem are not the same thing at all. Those good feelings are a by-product of self-esteem, which in turn is a result of good living.
