Personally, I wouldn't say a thing to anybody even if I had solid proof as it would mean the end of something that has been around for a very long time. Scientists, etc. would be in there like flies on you know what, trying to capture it, study it, dissect it, destroy its habitat, etc. I would feel priviledged to have seen it and leave it at that.

Your abosultely right! I've never been one to ruin a good thing, and I defeintely wouldn't try to exploit something thats been around forever! It would seem too sacred to me. Plus I think Nessy is SO COOL!!!!

Gather the best evidence I can without disturbing anything- photo the site, any footprints or hair, etc. Get the best site readings I can, ideally with my GPS- where I was, where it was when I first saw it, when I last saw it, the route it followed. Measure the height of items in the photos for comparison. (Leave most of the hair, etc. in place to be studies 'in situ'.)

I would tell a reputable scientist in the research area about it and turn over copies of my stuff. True scientists WILL NOT try to hurt a living animal or damage the habitat- although amatuers, glory hounds, armchair adventurers, etc. certainly might! I'd also get an agreement signed that I share in any positive outcomes of the discovery.

I would NOT tell the media at this point, at least until my scientist had something useful to share, then I'd work with the scientist on any press releases, etc.

of course, if I just SAW it, I'd just file a quick report with one of the bigger tracking groups and leave it go at that.

Is there something wrong with studying something?

I hardly think you'd be able to ask questions on a computer if there weren't people interested in studying things and trying to find out how the universe works.

I'd take a picture of it with my supertelephoto lens and if it was clear I'd send it to a zoologist and ask for an explanation.

Frankly you might as well ask what I'd do if an angel appeared or a genie or a flying saucer considering the odds of it happening.

If I saw a Loch Ness Monster, I would stick my neck out to see it, and think, ok this thing is from the prehistoric days and they still live.
I believe.
As for Bigfoot, wow, something amazing to see, i would put my small feet in front and follow.

As long as Nessy didn't bite my Toyota Tundra and drag me down in the water (like the commercial), I would just smile and be glad to see one of Nature's most mysterious creatures.

If I saw a big foot, I would just be sure not to stick around long enough to ask him if he knows Chewbacca!

Well, I can say with absolute certainty, that the people behind me would be slipping in my s**t!!

Then, like you, I wouldn't tell anyone, although I'm pretty sure SOMEONE would ask me how I managed to mess my pants like that....
