This was how my parents found the well on our house. My father talks about the rod moving all around and the "witcher" offered to let him try. My dad took the rod and it didn't move at all. Then the guy put his hand on top of my dad's and it started moving.

Hey Material Girl......Pay no attention to the idiots....It's like asking someone if they believe in the sun......I see the sun, I feel it on my face, I believe it exists.. My father worked for the phone company for years....there was a guy "Mr Shorty Aulds" that also worked for the phone company and they would call him to locate buried line (gas lines, water lines etc) before they would dig. Mr Aulds used wood for finding water ....but for finding buried lines....he used bent steel rods....I saw him on two occasions get out of his truck and walk across an open field and locate buried gas lines and water lines in just a few minutes....My dad said that Mr Shorty was NEVER wrong. I don't know how it works or why it works...I just know that it does work.
good luck

Hi
The key word in your question is the answer. "Believes". There has never been any scientific proof that water-witching, aka, "dowsing" has ever been anything more than knowing the geological features that may point to a possible water source. (well drillers use this knowlede this way) Otherwise, it is merely a con game that ocaisionally has "hits" purely by chance. For every "hit", there are hundreds of false positives. It short, it is "belief" in the thing, not it's actual usefullness, that continues to this day.

I do, in fact I do it quite often. I can locate, water, power lines and almost anything that is in the ground. How it works; I have no idea. I use metal coat hangers with their ends stuck in straws so that they can rotate, works like a charm.

I'm sorry but no, not in the least. In my opinion it ranks right up there with palm reading and the 1-900 psychic hotline.
