i drive a 92 pontiac grand am. automatic. when i recently drove it this morning it would make a very loud noise like metal scrapping the floor. i noticed that the noise only got louder when i didnt hit the gas and just let it coast. it sounds like the noise is coming from underneath the car and not really from the engine. any ideas what it could be??

it also may be your muffler and many auto repair places will look at your car for free so you might want to check one of them out.

I trust mr be attentive to all of it there. let us know some extra info on your automobile. Is it an computerized trans or handbook? Ford, Chevy, Honda? 3 hundred and sixty 5 days? 1904 kind T or 2006 Toyota? It sounds like a severe transmission situation, yet merely "scrapping noise" does not help a good purchase.

I would look under the car. Maybe something is hanging down on the driveshaft. I would also check the dust shields behind the brakes.. maybe a stone got caught up in there.

Good luck
