You know the kind I'm talking about. The oh so clever people who ask questions, which on the face are legitimate, but can't but use the most abusive of tones or language, and then act surprised that we choose to return the favour. You can't have both ways. If you wish respect, be respectful. If you choose ask questions using insults and barely hidden contempt for gays, then you should expect no less than the same in return. So again, I ask, Why be polite to those who continue to be hostile?

The frustration comes from the fact that some of the questions are worth answering but they are dripping with contempt at the same time. It just get annoying. Like many of you, I don't answer all or most, but every once in awhile you just can't let it go, and that too is a frustration.

I do agree with you.
"If you wish respect, be respectful" works only with intelligent people, the ones whe have here are anything but intelligent.

It's in my nature to be polite, for the most part. It takes a lot to get me irked. So if I seem as though I'm being polite on those occasional times I respond to a complete dorkwad I could be doing so with gracious sarcasm.
I've also found in my experiences that on occasion my demeanor as actually made some people rethink their own deportment. I think in the long run that is worth the effort of being polite without backing down. It's just how I'm put together. I hope you understand.

I have gotten into the habit of just ignoring those questions, at least that is what I am trying to do. Every once in a while, though I will answer but not often.

I am also one of those people who take people at their word. If someone posts a well written question, and it seems like it is someone who hasn't posted before, I might reply. But when I see they are just homophobes who are trying to inflame, I don't answer any more. I believe that there are some people who are willing to think about what they have been taught, and are willing to listen.

In order to not lower myself [to their contemptible level]. To show that their words hold no sway over me. That their efforts to bait and rile me are wasted efforts.

We can't show our tempers, because we lower ourselves to their level. Sorry, I can't stoop that low for anybody.
