Physician Assisted Suicide is when if somone is dying from a servere illness, they could request to have medications to make the pain go away during there death, by the doctors.
In most states, this is illegal because it is believed that it is inhumane to do so.
My opinion on this, is that if you're dying from an illness, and you want medication to ease the pain during your death it is your right to request it. If I was in that position, I would want meds to help me out, I wouln't want to die in servere pain. Would you?
I mean, it doesn't make sense when it's humane to put animals down, or to kill people with electric chairs and lethal injection. But it's not okay to help someone out?
What's your oponion on this?

okay, a lot of people are comparing this to abortion. NO, it's totally different. Abortion is taking someones life other than oyur own. POhysician assisted suicide is taking control of YOUR LIFE. You should have the say so in how you would like to end oyur life. It is yours, NOT THE GOVERNMENTS or the INSURANCES.

God gave life and He should be the one to decide when He takes it away, not man

Ethical maybe not. I have been thru this twice with family members and it is one of the worst things to go thru. My father with cancer asked me to help him if and when the time came when he wanted to go. I agreed and he started saving pain pills to take when he was ready. He died naturally but the fact he had made the decision and was acting on it make him feel like he had some control. My sister also was terminal and she felt helpless. She was on so much pain medication that she was not really here. I dont know if they gave her enough that she died but if they did I have no problem with it. She is at peace now. I think it is a personal decision and no one elses.

If it is a severe illness that will cause the person extreme pain and prolong suffering leading up to death then yes, they should be allowed to have physician assisted suicide.
Think of it this way, we go to extremes to make certain that murderers we are putting to death do not suffer or feel any pain. yet we make our own Grandma lay in a hospice bed for months while she rots away inside from cancer.

One of your answers says God gave us life and we should not take it away. So God gave us medicine then to prolong the sick elderly lives beyond what there time should be. Here on earth we are daily playing God because we keep people alive with modern medicine. There are people on ventilators and trachs attached to walls just sitting there lifeless. I don't feel comfortable ending someones life. But we should definitely ask ourselves these questions and explore answers so these people who are in extreme pain can have a decent dignified death.

There is a place and time for it, yes.
There are some conditions which render a person really only able to move their eyelid muscles obviously rendering them completely helpless but at the same time they are completely conscious, there is no cure for the disorders that cause this.
People who oppose all assisted suicide, would you like to spend the rest of your days being completely immobile but conscious?

The Government has no right to make these kinds of decisions for us. At the same time, I don't want some insurance company making this decision for me either. Yes, we should all have the right to decide on this issue.

I am torn on this one. while I think it is horrible to want to die, I cannot imagine being in so much pain and wanting to.
I feel this is an issue that should be left up to the patient, so I guess yes I would support it, but do I think its ethical, maybe not so much.

I think it should not be done by a doctor. They take an oath to protect life. It also puts pressure on the doctor. If you want to end your life, do it yourself. Don't put the burden on another.

let's pretend for a minute that whateverbabe is right, and that "god gave us life". if it was given to us, that makes it ours to do with as we please, including deciding when to end it. it's as simple as that. the reality is, however, that my mother gave me life, and it certainly isn't up to her when it should end. i for one will not suffer through a long illness only to die a wasted shell of a person. i have arrangements with both my father and my husband to end the life of any of us who get so sick or old that we no longer enjoy living. though we don't intend for any doctors to be involved.

I agree.
No one on Earth should be able to tell me that I cannot choose to die.
People are so wishy-washy when it comes to this stuff.
But the conservative Christian movement is still quite strong in this country, through the media, for whatever reason..
Hopefully, reason will triumph, and people will be able to make this decision for themselves.
