Youngest sister is to be 17 in 2 weeks & we just found out she may possibly be pregnant. (Young, I know...) My parents are flipping out (I don't blame them!) & are insisting she's not just cause she's had a period or two & is spotting now. I've tried to reassure them that it's completely possible but they're just too much in denial. The urine test they gave her at the doctors says positive but I know sometimes there are circumstances that cause a false positive...such as being on certain meds, etc. (My dad had looked that up cause my mom had brought up that idea.) She goes in Friday for a pelvic ultrasound to determine it. After asking her a few questions, I figured her to be about 2 months...maybe more, maybe less.
If she is around that far along would something most definitely show up on an ultrasound??? That's probably the only way to get my parents into reality....
Also, anybody got any ideas on how she should tell her now-ex bf if she is??? He's the same age.........

Never been pregnant myself so I don't know everything. Middle sister has been but we're too afraid to tell her just yet. This is because she will get PISSED & start yelling & going on a rampage because my parents don't keep a close eye on & discipline the youngest enough. She insists they forgot how to parent & gave up after her & I.

Last she saw her ex was early to middle November (they were still together at the time).....so that's about 2 or 3 months correct????

Her & the ex still talk. He lives a few hours south in the state w/ his dad & his mom won't talk to him after she kicked him out over a stupid fight about dinner. (She lives in this town.)
A false positive is possible. my dad looked it up last night. some meds for some reason can have the pregnancy hormone in it.

The odds of the positive test at the doctor's office being wrong is astronomical, so it's a safe bet that you're going to be an aunt in 8 or so months.
At two months along, you'll definately see something on the ultrasound, and it will already look like a baby, depending on what week she really is in.
I had my first ultrasound at 10 weeks and the baby already had arms and legs and you could see him waving them around on the screen. You couldn't tell it was a boy at that point, obviously, but it was unmistakably a perfect little human.
At the ultrasound, they'll be able to tell how far along exactly she is and give you a due date. If she's two months now, then that means she's due around October.
As for telling her ex, well, this is someting best done in person, but I think it would be a good idea if you went along for moral support. Maybe she could email him and tell him she needs to tell him something important, to meet her somewhere. Then once the meeting is set up, you and her both go and let her tell him by herself, with you nearby. Then if it looks like he's getting angry or she's getting upset or something, you can step in.
Good luck and congratulations on the baby!

I am almost certain that the ultrasound will show evidence of a pregnancy if she is. There are differences in the way the uterus looks, aside from seeing the baby, even this early. The radiologist will be able to tell, and probably a doc doing an exam on your sister will be able to tell from the condition of the uterus.
I would be more concerned about tubal or otherwise unhealthy things if she has actually "had a couple of periods"
Don't worry, your parents will get into reality soon enough....even if she isn't pregnant, the concerns may cause them to be more engaged in parenting her.
As for her boyfriend, that's tough since he is an ex. As he is a minor, I think this is something that should involve his parents, but I know a lot of teens and college students will disagree with. Things look very different as you mature.

If she got a positive at the doctor there is no doubt she is. If she is 8 weeks the baby will look like a peanut. Yes there will be something there to prove it to your dad.
****Can anything interfere with home pregnancy test results?
Most medicines, over-the-counter and prescription, including birth control pills and antibiotics, should not affect the results of a home pregnancy test. Only medicines that have the pregnancy hormone hCG in them can give a false positive test result. A false positive is when a test says you are pregnant when you're not.
Sometimes medicines containing hCG are used to treat infertility (not being able to get pregnant). Alcohol and illegal drugs do not affect HPT results. But women who may become pregnant should not use these substances

I had an ultrasound at 7 weeks. In addition to seeing the baby in the sac, I was also able to see the heartbeat flicker on the monitor. If she is 2 months / 8 weeks, they will be able to see the baby on the ultrasound. They should really do a vaginal ultrasound at this time since the baby is so small.
If she is pregnant, she should tell the ex-boyfriend. He has the right to know. Since I don't know him or know anything about him, I can't say what would be the best way to tell him. The only thing I can say is I would tell him in person.
Best of luck to all of you.

yes something will show up on the ultra sound. they can hear the baby's heart beat at 10 weeks and if she took the prego test she is for sure pregnant. their is never a false positive. their can be false negitive because there could be very little of the hormone the test detects but as far as their being med's that could cause false positive, is she on those med's. if shes 17 probly not i would say. i was 20 when my daughter was born. she just needs to tell the ex. and he will probly be freaked out at first. but i think with time he will come around. most men after a break up and a women comes and says shes prego. they deny that its thiers. make sure she knows that he will most likely deny it. and not to freak out. all questions of paternaty will be answered when the baby is born. should she decide to keep it.

With the how far along question. I got pregnant in early to middle Nov. and am now 12 weeks along. Just to set up a time line for you. Also, I had an ultrasound at 9 weeks and the baby was clearly visable, heart beat and all.

She is most likely pregnant and the ultrasound will prove that. She should just call her boyfriend up after she has the ultrasound and tell him what is going on. Young boys at this age are so immature and no matter what he says I hope your family will still be there for her. Good Luck!

well im 19 and 38 wks, ur parents are just going to have to deal with it tell you the truth my older sister was pregnant at age 17 and my dad made her get marride to the guy that got her pregnant im not saying make them get marride but my dad flipped out now he is happy cuz he is a grandpa. i didnt get to tell my ex that i was pregnant his current girlfriend was always bothering me about it asking if i was pregnant by her man and finaly i gave up and said yes ok i didnt want him to know but i was just getting mad that his new girl was coming up to me and asking all the time. he still doesnt want anything to do with me or take it in his head that the baby is his because i had been going out after we broke up he automatically thought i was sleeping around because of what his best friend was saying.
i would say just give her the time she thinks she needs about telling her ex. just help her out she will feel very emotional about this. wen shes ready to talk about certain things listen and try not to give her bad advice
