Any antibiotic can cause thrush in anyone. Thrush is an overgrowth of the candidia aka yeast bacteria and occurs often after using antibiotics. When taking antibiotics (actually daily use is better) be sure to eat plenty of yogurt with live active cultures or use acidophillus capsules to help prevent this. If you think you have Thrush then see your doc to get it treated.

Yes it can. Antibiotics should be limited to essential prescriptions as nearly 1/3 of all patients given them may develop some level of side effects from nausea and vomiting to rashes and acute allergy.
As long ago as the mid 90's a Lord's committee suggested that between 50-85% of all antibiotics given for all reasons were unnecessary!
They cause thrush by killing off all bacteria including our normal useful protective ones in skin and gut. This leaves a space which can be filled by fungal growth.

Yes. Thrush can be caused by an immune system failure. Taking any antibiotic for too long, or taking too much of it can cause the immune system to weaken and fail, thus allowing the bacteria that cause thrush to multiply in your mouth.

Yes, and he can pass it to you, and later you can pass it back.
Refrain from sex until it has been cleared up, he would probably find it a bit uncomfortable just now anyway.
Canesten cream (clotrimazole) applied to his penis as directed in the instructions should relieve his symptoms pretty quick. If you have already got it, there is also a vaginal pessiary version and an oral tablet version for women.
When I say no sex, I mean it. Heard of oral thrush? Not nice
All the best to both of you
hope he's better soon.

Antibiotics can cause thrush because they are kill all bacteria in your system, the helpful with the harmful.
Yogurt is one way to introduce bacteria back into your system. When I'm on antibiotics for an infection (rarely), I make sure that i eat plenty of yogurt, by suggestion of my doctor.

yes, take some acidophyllus to replace the normal flora in your mouth/stomach/intestines. antibiotics kill everything leaving yeast to grow and take over. drinking buttermilk or eating yogurt too will help rid this thrush. your husband can start taking this each time with antibiotic therapy to head it off at the pass. he is more venerable.

yes, and thrush is absolutely disgusting...if you eat yogurt a couple times a day when you're on antibiotics, it will help prevent this from happening...(make sure the carton says "live yogurt cultures")

Yes, whenever you take an antibiotic, it is a good idea to eat yogurt everyday or go to your health food store and get Probiotics. These measures will help prevent the overgrowth of yeast and are healthy for your stomach\intestines.
