Society likes to ' blame' people if they are unemployed, calling them lazy etc however usually there are mitigating factors one of them being attitude.

The longer people are unemployed, the more poor their attitude becomes, because all people want to feel worthy and able to contribute to their family's well being or society.

They may need upgrading in education and not know where or how to access help.

They may have transportation or health issues which effects not only their employablility but their attitudes as well.

However, it is NOT all the unemployed person's fault. The economy plays a huge part- most people have trouble suriving on minimum wage or half their salaries or have to settle for mcJobs- temporary part time with no benefits no health coverage.

Employers ' attitudes also play an important part, many times they see someone over 40 or 50 and think they're too old. Still steeped in the generational stereotype that older workers won't be staying that long and will want to retire.

Sexism also affects someone 's unemployment. They see women of child bearing ages and automatically assume she'll need time off to have a baby and have other family obligations so they don't hire young women.

People with disabilities suffer chronic unemployment due to employers attitudes that if they are disabled they aren't able to do any kind of job , which is not true. In this day of the information worker many disabled people are more adaptive to technical devices than the able - bodied and will bring their own adaptations to the worksite.

So it's a combination of attitudinal problems, the unemployed, the employer and society's attitudes all play a part in unemployment.
