I agree with Ice Demon. All sciences in school are taught as abstracts with absolutely no co-relation to the real world. Another problem is that abstract reasoning, required in math, does not develop in children till the age of 10 at the earliest and in some much later, therefore it's something that some children are not yet capable of no matter how much we force them to. But the biggest problem is that children function on a "here and now" basis and if they don't see the relevance right now of what's being taught, they will lose interest. A smart teacher will try and connect the knowledge being taught to the real-life experiential background of the students.

I agree with Sir Sam. It has a lot to do with the way in which math is currently taught. Math teachers need to show kids that math can be both fun and useful. They need to focus less on memorization and more on understanding. Sadly, most math teachers don't really seem all that interested in mathematics themselves. At least that was true of my high school math teachers. My geometry teacher seemed to be much more interested in coaching volleyball. It seems as though they spent too much time in college taking education classes and not enough time taking advanced mathematics.

My husband and that i (human beings) communicate approximately this often. when I went interior the process the gadget, they progressed something observed as "new math", which became puzzling and uninteresting on the comparable time. as a replace of going lower back to tried and actual techniques, the persons the write the textbooks have spent different time attempting to discover became to make math "extra proper" to all little ones. There used to many parodies approximately this, maximum of which have been offensive. (If Jimmy the Pimp has 3 hos and on Friday nighttime Lulu has 3 Johns.....) you are able to basically think of! they must have stayed with the classical ideas-set to coaching math, and assigned actual math instructors to do the activity. yet another situation looks to be that toddlers at the instant are much extra spoiled than we've been, have short interest spans and no staying power. They spend too a lot time in front of video games and cheating is wide-unfold. the colleges call for a lot of their math curricula, yet short-replace the youngsters in excessive factors like trigonometry. My husband says the final analysis right here is it relatively is ought to be government coverage to vitally improve math interior the colleges at each and every point. it relatively is the only way issues will replace.

because they have more choices now. when i was growing up your only options where to be good at math, english or science... now schools are embracing other skills and talents that children have such as trade classes and beauty school classes in high schools. some high schools are mostly devoted to the performing arts while there are even others geared for phsyical education. not everyone plans on going to college after high school, so schools are offering different routes for those kids. children have more options than before which is a good thing, everyone has to find their own niche and it's easier and more appealing to them with more choices...

Usually, it has to do with the way it is taught. It is hard for children to see how math can have any practical applications for them. A good teacher will try to show them how math can help them in their daily living.
