Everything from "Political Correctness" to heightened security measures since 9/11. Even things we hardly take notice of, for example, no more housing is being built that isn't connected to some type of "homeowners association", where they tell you what color to paint your house, how many cars you can have and how long your garage door is allowed to be open.
I have heard that here in California, they are trying to pass a law that will make it a crime to spank a child under 4.
A friend of mine took some pictures of her sleeping baby (who happened to be naked) and when she went to pick up the photos she was informed that they had called the Sheriff and Social Services. What a nightmare!
These are just a few examples, and I'm sure you have some of your own.
What do you think? Do you think we have become a society who would rather sacrifice our freedom for real or perceived "security"?

Let's see, the federal government can now enter my home and search it without ever presenting a warrant or telling me they were there, arrest me and refuse right of habeus corpus, send me to a foreign country for questioning, put me on trial without allowing me to face my accusers or hear the evidence against me, open and read my personal mail, listen to my phone calls without a warrant....why on earth would you say I'm losing my freedom?

No, I think we are losing it quickly. The Patriot Act has shredded the Constitution. Your phone can be tapped without permission and your postal and e-mail can be opened and read. Your buying history and your library borrowing records can be examined. Federal officials can legally enter your home, search it, and copy your hard drive without your even knowing it. The Real ID, the law which goes into effect in May of 2008, will centralize all your personal data in a national database. Don't want to participate? Good luck entering a federal building, getting on a plane or even applying for a job. (Luckily, about a dozen states so far are refusing to participate and more will likely come on board).

What's next? Tommy Thompson is leading the charge to implant a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip in each of us. This Orwellian program will be sold to us as a safety issue (e.g. no more kidnapped children, lost hikers, wandering Alzheimers patients, cheating husbands etc. ) but in fact what it means is that Big Brother will know our whereabouts at all times. No excuses like "I left my card at home" - the chip, the size of a grain of rice, will be permanently implanted under your skin. Hello, Brave New World.

Go to Google Videos and watch "America: Freedom to Fascism." The first hour is about the IRS, but it's the second hour that gets really scary.

I think the religous nuts have taken over.
That is one of the reasons this has been a great country where most inventions have happened and free thinkers.
Because we had freedom of religon, or freedom without religion if that is what you wanted. Now they want to control everything from what you call an evergreen. It can't be called a cedar.
It has to be a Christmas tree. In trying to call it a holiday tree, which is still ridiculous that wasn't good enough for the Christian control freaks. Hay guys it is a cedar tree! grow up and quit trying to control the rest of us.
