Let's break this down a bit. Circumcision is elective surgery, with the decision to proceed being made by parents on behalf of their child. I am assuming your circumsision was done properly in the sense that the results from a medical standpoint were reasonable.

The question is who can be held liable for allowing the surgery to go ahead. This comes down to a question of informed consent. In this regard, the doctor owes a duty to you and your parents to inform your parents about the procedure, including the positive and negative aspects and risks. The doctor should also take steps to make sure your parents understand what they are being told. Once these things are done, the doctor has complied with his or her duty in connection with obtaining consent for the surgery. You will need to get evidence from all involved to see whether you have a claim here. My gut impression is that the doctor could easily demonstrate compliance with the duty, seeing as the surgery is very common and the explanations are relatively simple.

Now for your parents. Your parents owe you a duty to make decisions that are in your best interests. After, presumably, hearing and understanding the doctor's explanation, they decided it would be best for you to have the surgery. Many people in North America are circumcised and it is not commonly considered to be a form of genital mutilation. If you want to prove that it should be so considered, you will have a very steep and high mountain to climb, along with the help of medical experts. I am not saying it is impossible, but you will have to convince a court and that will take some strong ammunition. You see, if you show that it is mutilation, you will open the flood gates for many claims and the surgery would probably no longer be done. That, you can rest assured, will receive STIFF opposition at all levels of court. Over and above all this, do you really want to sue your parents? If you do, ask if they have any money. You cannot get blood from a stone, so regardless of any judgment amount, all you can collect is what they have.

I do not see how you have any claim against the Canadian government.

What you are wanting to do is very risky and will be very expensive. It would also take many years. If you win at trial, the matter will certainly be appealed and if you win on appeal, it will certainly go to the Supreme Court of Canada. The other side will be well-funded and represented by top lawyers.

I do NOT mean any disrespect, but quite frankly I think your claim is a long shot at best and I think it will be VERY hard to find a lawyer willing to put the time and money into it. The law does not always have a solution and in my opinion, your situation does not call for a legal solution. My suggestion, if you want to change things, would be to become an activist against circumcision and attempt to change the medical community's approach to and society's views with respect to this type of surgery.

They don't circumcise with out reason and it is not just for the girls. You need to read the facts and thank God they did it to you when you were young as you obviously were. I had to suffer while watching my Son have this done at the age of 10 due to problems that could have been avoided had it been done at birth.
It is not mutilation so get over it. By the way, why not sue your Parents then if you need money, I suggest you get a job and make your own

actually you should be suing you parents as they could have protected you from this. The government and the doctor have nothing to do with it. If you are hell bent then I suggest you prepare yourself for the health issues. It is generally accepted that circumcision is a healthier alternative to non-circumcision.

A frivolous lawsuit is no way to solve you financial problems. Get a job or an education and go out and earn a living like the rest of us.

No.

Circumcision isn't that bad (the traditional male circumcision that is.) Recently they found out it limits the transmission of the HIV virus in heterosexual men. It has many other health benefits, and it doesn't hurt your sex life either.

I think they should do it in the UK too.

They were most likely acting on your parents wishes so you have no case unless you want to sue your parents.

There was no mass conspiracy for circumcision, it was completely your parents decision, and they chose for you to lead a life without a foreskin.

Upset that they cut off too much???? So now you want cash to get girls???? Well, go sue your parents, its their fault, and I doubt that they have that kind of cash. "AND" if there is a lawyer out there dumb enough to take this case, you both deserve each other.

My question is when were you circumcised? Did your parents ask to have your skin removed?
