My 11 week old baby has gotten the same cold my 4 year old has. Niether one of them have any fever. They have stuffy/runny nose, sneezing, and some coughing (i believe from their nose being stuffy). Is this serious? Do I need to take them to the doctor or is there something I can do for them at home? I have been giving my 4 year old over the counter meds which seems to help him.

Do tothe fact that there are no over the counter medications for babies of that age, I suggest you take your baby to the doctor immediately. Having a cold even if it is common like you think it could develop into something worse like pnuemonia. Also if her breathing is labored they may want to do a type of breathing treatment. a child at that age is very fragile and it is best to have a expert opinion.

If it's a cold with out fever the doctor will probably say it's a virus and it should go on it's own. You may buy the vicks vaporizer to help ease the nose and cough. When babies get sick it's sounds much worse that what it is, just cause they are so small. You may want to see if there are any infant over the counter medicines for the cold at your local drugstore.

Do you have a cold air humidifier running in their bedrooms? This will help put moisture in the air. Also, using saline drops and a nose syringe to suck out mucus will offer the baby some relief. Check with your doctor before you give the 11 week any over the counter meds. If it has been more than one week, I would call the doctor to see what he/she recommends.

I have two children myself. One is 5 and the other 1 1/2 They usually get sick at the same time. I am no Dr but if the older one is old enough to tell you how they feel and you are treating them then maybe you could just put a call in to the Doc just to see what you may give the baby. The pharmacy will usually do the same.

I'm sure your baby will get over it soon. Use a humidifier this will help with stuffy nose and def breathing better. If you see that it gets worse then take i would go to the Pediatrician but since there isn't a fever i wouldn't rush to the doctor.

Got to the doctor!!!! You must use extreme caution giving a child that young any meds-ANY. If you are breast feeding, you probably can't take anything for the cold either. Your doctor can tell you what, if anything you can give the child. I know my ped. didn't allow anything other than a humidifier and a tiny, tiny bit of vicks on the chest. My ped also gave me a list of meds I could take while nursing-pretty much what you could have while pregers. Good luck-hope everyone is better soon. With a child so young you must be careful of fevers and dehydration.

If there's no fever, then there is really nothing the doctor can do. Infant Tylenol has a version specially for colds. We used that when my daughter was sick. Also, saline nose drops will help loosen the mucus in his/her nose. I know that Robitussin DM can be used for the cough, but you would have to call and ask the doctor for the correct dose.

I think you can call your doctor before making the trip, if the baby is eating normally and has no fever.
Some things you can do to keep the baby comfortable, use a bulb to suction out any congestion in the nose. Use a vaporizer in the babies room when he/she naps and sleeps.

Hope this helps!

There's really nothing a doctor can do for the common cold. If there's no fever, it's really not worth bringing your child into the dr's office. If the coughing gets worse and they begin to get fevers than bring them in, because that would be an indication that it could be more than the common cold.
