Because most Muslim women are totally controlled by their husbands and their husbands family...
The women are then not allowed to go out without a chaperon so therefor they can not seek employment.
This is the way it is for these poor women....their life is to look after their husbands and their in-laws.
I think this is in Sharia law and must be obeyed....
What a way to live in the 21st century...what a faith to follow...
It puts back women's rights by 50 years or more.
It's not right and it shouldn't be allowed in the UK or anywhere in the civilised world.
My message to Muslim Ladies out there...'free yourself from the shackles of your tormentors...get yourself a life instead of giving your life to his family.'

A lot of Muslim women in the UK work and go to University. There are many in my classes at uni. However, many women (not just Muslims) come from patriarchal societies and have not yet become liberated. The next generation will, however. This has to do with cultural differences, not Islam (which gives women many rights).

if your religion is that important to you, that you don't work, wear a viel, only speak to people of your own religion, why would you move your family abroad to a country that does none of the above.
oh yes thats right - its because they get paid very well to do so by our government, courtesy of the good tax payer.
there is going to be a civil war in this country very soon if the muslims don't do anything about the way they are being portrayed in the media - why don't the non-extremist muslims co-operate with the community to get rid of the extremists

Culturally, it is difficult for a orthodox islamic woman to work due to the restrictions placed on women in that culture. They are expected to behave modestly which tends to imply that they must be covered, may not talk to non-islamic males, may not leave thier house without a male relative etc. Culturally, they do not always get an education as well.
All of this makes it hard for them to work outside of the home.

First off they are denied an education so very little is open to them. Then they can't be around men in any occupation.
Muslim men have to have complete control over their lives and live in terrior they may look at another man. While they have multiple affairs and multiple wives. Part time wives for when they are away from home. This is a control of women thing.

if i talk about some muslim countries (saudi arabia,the united emirates of arabia,palestine,...),yes a lot women don't work in these countries..but in uk,i don't think that muslim women don't work..

Mainly it's because their husbands won't allow them to work nor to learn English. Of course, our government assists in all this, bless!
