There's a lot of nonsense talked about this movie, namely that it's some kind of guilty pleasure and that it was a low point for Bowie.

The truth is that Labyrinth, with a script by Monty Python's Terry Jones, is the natural successor to Alice in Wonderland, with a bit of Wizard of Oz thrown in and this dramatic atmosphere especially particular to some 1980s childrens films throughout. It is stylistically striking too, from Jim Henson's creations to elaborate sets including the decadent ballroom scene.

Two songs on this album, Underground (featuring an unexpectedly uplifting chorus) and the beautiful, haunting ballad As the world fall down, featured on David Bowie's 'Best of' DVD but he seemed strangely embarrassed to put them on the accompanying 'Best of' CD despite all of the songs on Labyrinth (even Chilly Down) being some of his most interesting.

One of the finest 1980s curiousities- a cult gem that has gained widespread appeal too.

Dance Magic Dance

Every time I'm coming home from town *slightly drunk* I always end up singing that song with my little sister. I remeber going to sleepovers when I was much younger, and we'd all fantasise about David Bowie *well his character anyway*

When they dance to *As the world falls down* it's so romantic.

And yes, not only have I seen the film (many, many times) I've also got it on DVD and have the soundtrack too!

If you enjoy it, I would also recommend you watch The Dark Crystal and WIllow aswell.

Yes! Labyrinth is one of those movies that is "so totally 80s" it's almost disgusting. Between the bulge in Bowie's pants to the dancing muppet goblins, it's got something for everyone. The only other movie from the same time period that can rival that movie in 80s-tasticness is The Goonies.

Yer loads, its a great film. Good family entertainment.

Despite Mr Bowie's showing his 'presence' in those revealing trousers.

I also learned what an Oubliet is.

not only I've seen it, but i also have it in DVD and also have the soundtrack which is more than great. David Bowie is really great on this movie -not to mention how young is Jennifer Conney there :). it's one of the earliest and most representative films of the fantasy world(lets say the...grandfather of 'Lord of the rings')

Yes its a brilliant film, though I think if I watched it now it might have dated too much. I really loved those crystal balls Bowie's character had & the gorgeous ball gown Jennifer Connelly wore at one point! Though again, if I saw the dress now I might think it was hidious!
