Is there such a thing as a desert island? If it's an island with sea all around, surely it's too humid to be a desert? And if it's large enough to have a desert in the middle (like Australia), wouldn't it also have some level of vegetation and habitable land nearer the coast?

That's because the question usually includes the word 'stranded' therefore you wouldn't be 'stranded' if you were stuck on a desert island with a boat.
Clothes, moisturiser and a big sharp hunting knife is what i'd take.

If you think about the question properly it's not saying you have landed there by accident. You have to choose what you would take so you are either happy or comfortable during your stay there. I'd take a small inflatable dingy and a fishing net.

I would take a helicopter and someone that knew how to fly it and make sure that the heli was fueled.
