I may be moving to Colorado Springs in the next month or so (for a job assignment). Right now I am living in the DC metro area and love the networking opportunities for young black professionals. The possibilities are endless. I am interested in connecting with young black professionals in COS but am having some trouble finding organizations or groups on the web reaching out to young blacks in COS. Is anyone familiar with the area and can offer suggestions? Are there popular hangouts or neighborhoods? I have nothing against other races, in fact I like having friends of different backgrounds and cultures, but after being the token black person at my job all day, that's not a trend I want to continue in my personal life.

Ok, first off, Wayne A, there was nothing in her question that was in any way racist. please send your unnecessary rants and raves elsewhere. that was unnecessary

I don't know about COS but I know you might feel a little more at home in Denver.

I would go with Boulder. I went to school there and it is full of awesome outdoor stuff to do. Chautauqua park is pretty much in the city and it's got great hiking and rock climbing, esp for being ten minutes away from home! It is a college town though, so be prepared for large amounts of drunken freshman walking around on Saturday night in the student-populated areas (i.e. The Hill). If you go to Pearl Street Mall though it's a little better. I'd still go for Boulder over Golden though because it has more character, in my opinion. The whole liberal thing really isn't an issue though, unless you're really into local politics. It's not like there's anarchy up there or anything. If you didn't mind being a little further from Denver, Steamboat is a great town too. Lots of skiing in the winter (obviously) but it has great mountain biking, rafting in the summer. I know a lot of people that have moved there and completely fallen in love with it.

So what your saying is that when your not being paid to be somewhere or to be performing a work based situation you prefer the company of people of your own background ! Oh my God you would rather hang out with people you relate to rather than most white people ! Isn't that a tad RACIST ! If a white guy said that he'd be critisized to no end - get my point ? It DOESN'T make you racist if you prefer the company of a certain - indeed your own cultural group, does it hunny ! Other than that good luck you sound lovely and I can definately relate to what your saying. For one im sick and tired of sooky sympathist chanting racism everytime a white guy opposes black thought.
