I need to figure out why some people like him and why not...?

What gave him the ability or drive to accomplish his greatnes?

I think it would be a good subject to write about. I believe he came from a really poor background and made himself into a general and of course on to be sec. of state. I would write about his military more than anything since he had such a long and distinguished career. There should be plenty of subject matter to look over in your research. Some people don't like him because he worked for bush and seemed to sellout, but others think he is great, just depends on point of view.

South Bronx, NYC, should be the reason for your report on Gen. Colin Powell. He grew up in the poor South Bronx neighborhood, where crime was epidemic. He managed to survive that neighborhood and make it all the way to the Sect. of State and a five star general. Quite impressive for a man with humble beginnings.
