If they are the teacher of the student with the crush...It is illegal or at least unethical and will result in the teacher losing their teaching license. It is a conflict of interest.
If they are not the teacher of the student, but teach at the same institute as the student attends, it is inappropriate because it can still cause some conflicts in interest, but will usually not result in lose of license as there is no direct conflict of interest. However, the institute may very well not employ a teacher willing to get involved with a student as it begs the question as to whether they will have good judgment with an actual student of theirs that makes moves on them.

If it is involving two consenting adults- I'm okay with it; but the other problem is the tension it can cause at work. What if they had a dispute outside that morning, and the teacher assistant or professor starts to treat the student differently in class? It can cause problems, seriously.

When you become a Teacher, first of all respect, others, including your students. A Teacher, should be looked up as a role model, who,s position is to teach her/his students, to study and pass their exams as to be prepared to the challenges that the World will have for them, and nothing else. If a student is interested in teacher/profesor, she/he should, in no uncertain terms set straight on student/Teacher,responsibilities, and rules. If they abuse their student/Teacher responsiblities than that Teacher/Professor should be fired and the Authorities should be notified.

No I don't feel it is wrong.
If they have no input into the exam results.
No problem, and they are both over the age of consent, however that said, at 16 I feel that we are still kids even though we don't feel like it. So older than say 18 or 21 is in my opinion OK.
Wow I will get some thumbs down for this hehe

Teacher's are by definition in a position of power over young impressionable minds. They are put into a position of trust by the children's parents and society in general. Any relationship other than the conventional teacher / pupil relationship should be completely rejected. Simply put, it is an abuse of power by the teacher even if they are not the instigator and they should be held entirely accountable in a court of law for their actions.

I dont know whether it is wrong or not. However, legally there is a term called "person in authority". i.e. teacher, pastor etc. This group of people are assumed legally to have control over student/congregation. The teachers you mentioned would be in deep trouble over any sex with students even the students are over age.

That's an extremely good question...but on balance I'd say yes, so long as they are discreet about it.
For all those people who disagree, here's a possible situation.
You go out, you meet a guy in the pub, he seems nice and you embark on a relationship. Then you decide to enrol at a college. He works there. Do you break up?

However you look at it, it is professional misconduct. In the recent case/s the student was under age.
A old University student and a 25 year old teaching assistant is a different matter

It is 1000% wrong for teachers to engage in relationships with students.
Students are vulnerable to teachers. An emotionally susceptible student, no matter how willing, is not fair game.

Don't you remember when you had a crush on you science teacher? Most of the time it is innocent. What I do want to comment on is the question you asked. Should it be wrong to have relationships?
That is interesting..do you have a doubt?
