it's called burning up in the atmoshere and that happened to the space shuttle Columbia during reentry there was a hole in the carbon carbon shielding in the shuttles wing.Anyway the shielding they use for reentry of called carbon carbon panels.

Space craft are made of aluminum because it is light and strong. No attempt is made to shield from radiation, because such shielding would be too heavy. Space radiation is not as bad as most people seem to think.
