thank-you for all your kind words. it has now been 2 days without our beloved pet. it is like there is a hole in the household. since weds. i've slept maybe 5 hours in the past 72 hours. went to animal shelter today 2-10,just to pet a cat and hear purrs to relax. i want another cat a.s.a.p. to fill this hole in my heart. is this wise or normal?
thank-you all again for your help. please don't say anti-depressants, i am already on zoloft

When pets are in pain,
or are suffering from arthritis or age,
we are the ones that must choose the best way out for our little friends.
please try and console yourself in the knowledge that you were a responsible Pet owner and being kind enough to let them pass with dignity with no pain , Having to do this is causes such trauma, it is like loosing a member of your family.
It was the best you could do. I wish i were there i would give you a big hug.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I would feel the same as you if I lost my "Playboy". If you think that you are ready for another cat, by all means, give a good, loving home to a shelter animal. Just be prepared, it isn't going to be your same cat that you lost. He will be his own "person", with his own likes and dislikes. Spend time at the shelter getting to know the personalities of the different cats, and pick one that seems to suit your personality best. Good luck.

We have always had dogs and most of them lived many years until they died from old age. Two years ago, we immigrated to another country 'for a better life' and I had to put 4 maltese poodles down because we had spoilt them so much and they would not have adapted to someone else. They were full of life and well trained, they brought such happiness into our lives. Well, two years later I am still crying about it because I'm not sure if it's a better life without those young and special poodles.
We cannot have any animals here just yet and although life here is better for us, it is incomplete without our pets. I sometimes wish I hadn't done what I did. I miss them so!

last year I had to put my horse to sleep because of a twisted intestine. It was the worst day bar none in my life.
I know it was the right thing to do, because he was suffering really badly. He had been given enough tranquilizers to knock out 2 bull elephants, & he was still up pacing around & reaching for his belly.
I am so sorry for your loss, I know how you feel. Take a few days to greive, & remember that time will help it not hurt as much. Eventually, maybe you can get another cat that will fill another special place in your heart.

Putting each of the horses down was the hardest, knowing I will get back into my truck, drive out to the stables later on both won't be there.
Every morning now when I feed our other horses at our property, I say goodmorning to each of my horses. Sometimes I will say a horse name that we put down last year, realizing I am still in habit. Gives that "sad" feeling.

I just sold my dog 2 weeks ago. I had him for 1 and a half years since he was a puppy. I love him so much and was very attached to him. I knew I could not take care of him properly because I had to go to school all day (8 hours) and he had to be stuck outside all day. And I always had too much homework so I couldnt walk him. So I had to make the adult decision about selling him to some one who could love him and care. Hope that helps.

Accept my condolences for you loss. I had to put down the best dog I ever had about 3 years ago. She had been sick for several days. Of course the vet wanted us to take her to specialist but I finally said no. I don't want her to hurt anymore. So my hubby and I put her down. It is a hard thing to do but it is the right thing to do when the animal is suffering. It is OK to cry. Grieve for your beloved pet. Take care

Putting a dog that I had had for 8 years up for adoption because she didn't get along with a new baby ... never bit or anything but did growl and was very skittish around the baby and I couldn't take the chance that one day she would bite .... still very hard thing to do

This past summer I had to put down my 32 year old gelding. I saved him from certain death when he was only months old. The guy who had him was convicted of animal cruelty (over 20 horses were put to sleep due to him starving them beyond saving). So this horse was my life for 32 years. He was a fabulous trail horse, I showed him, trained him, gave lessons on him. He was wonderful. So when I had to put him to sleep this summer it broke my heart. I knew it was time, so did he somehow. He walked up to the grave we dug, he just looked at me and he was so tired. It was awful but I knew that he had a terrific life and lots of kids loved him over the years.
Having to make these decisions are the toughest part of animal ownership. But, we can't let them suffer...

i am sorry to hear that. you might not want to get a cat right away because if you take things too quick it will be hard + you should wait a month in honor of your cat.
