You put newspaper and dry leaves at the base and the driest wood at the bottom. Then just pile up the rest of the wood. You want to have a hose near by just in case it does get out of control. And there you have your fire.

best way is to clear a good section lawn down to bear minreal soil make it large enough to keep the crap you are burning away from the grass dont make the fire under any trees rule of thumb haa haa
you do not want a crown fire you wont get it out
now that you got your fire pit ready go get a keg
no bonfire is complete without a keg

Get permission from your local fire dept. Stack the wood like a tepee. Have a shovel . Best time to have a fire is in the winter

Being safe is easy. But being legal may be more difficult. Depends on your local open fire regulations. You'll have to contact your local fire department to ask what the regs are.

forget the bonfire.

Fire up the charcoal grill (or buy one of those expensive things like a chimenea) and just keep adding pieces until its all gone.

Takes longer but its legal and safe

You need to find out what is allowable in your local jurisdiction. Here a fire can be no larger than 4'x4'x3' and you must have a means to extinguish nearby.

ok if ur doin it a beach, u need to be closest to the water as possible and away from the Dunes on windy days over 5 knots i believe, and u should always keep your fire in a whole, dig a whole about 6feet in diamater about 2 feet deep.......GL and have fun!
