I am going to have a meeting with my advisor, but wanna get some answers early cuz im a little anxious.

Has anyone hear changed majors? If so, this is my situation. I am a Chem major and want to switch to Advertising. I am in the middle of my second semester of my Freshman year. Can I change majors now, or will I just drop Chem? Drop chem because it is a harder class and since I wont be continuing, no need to risk bad grades.

Thanks in advance

You can switch majors, no problem. The chem and science you have taken will most likely count towards an advertising major. Generally you have distribution requirements (different universities have different names, but these are requirements for you to take a certain number of hours in departments other than your major). Many people haven't even declared a major in their freshman year. I switched from education to physics during my freshman year and it was no problem.

As far as the chem you are taking now, if it's not to late the drop the class, go ahead. Just make sure you can pick up something else or that you will still be taking a full load without it. You don't want to drop from full-time to part-time.

finish the chem classes in which you are already enrolled.
and make GOOD GRADES. You can't just change everything
in the middle of a semester. You will start on your advertising
stuff next semester so you will plan what you will take next semester with your advisor. If you do decide to drop your chem class, and you can do so without penalty, make sure you don't go below 12 hours (full time student) or you could risk losing financial aid. Remember you (or someone) has already paid for that chemistry class you are taking and it's a waste ofmoney if you don't finish it and at least get the credit. It will still count as a credit. If you are switching to try to get out of chem because you are failing, that's a bad plan.

I've switched majors a lot! It's easy to do and quite common. The problem is that while some courses may have fullfilled some personal need, do not always fit into your degree requirements. Although, given that you are in first year, it's likely that your science credits will be taken as option credits into your advertising degree. Of course, you should be absolutely sure that your major is what you want or that the courses that you take can be used towards your possible major. That way you save hundreds or even thousands of dollars.

Yea I think you should be able to swap without a problem, that's if the Advertising module is not full.

By the way...I'm working in Graphics and Advertising now. It was a tough course, and an even tougher career. As long as you enjoy tight deadlines, soul-less goals, nasty cold bosses and the ability to make desirable the most immoral products and services in the world. Oh and you can deal with lots of rejection, grumpy 'high horse' clients and be highly compeditive with your closest friends, then yea, go for it!
