I did an illustration degree a lifetime ago, and I want to pursue this career and work from home.

Many companies accept submissions, just check on the website of the company you'd like to sell/distribute cards or illustrations with. If you want to distribute them yourselves, check at local craft stores for how much a kiosk in their store would cost you.
