My insurance states that only the contents are covered, but my friend reckons that she will get a payout if her shed is demolished in a storm. Does anyone else have this covered on their insurance, if so, who are you insured with??

You can only claim on the insurance for a shed or similar if you are insured for OUT BUILDINGS. This is usually included in House Insurance, not contents.

Flood insurance covers water damage that happens when water gets into the house through the walls or ground. Flood insurance ONLY covers water damage. When your roof is damaged, and that causes water to RAIN into your house, that's covered by your homeowners insurance. If you have water damage from that hole in your roof, that's part of the homeowners claim. You need to patch repair the shed roof, though, until you can get a real repair done. Also, you probably need to talk to your agent about lowering your deductible.

Probably not unless it was listed on the policy, depends on their coverage. It may not be worth it anyway as most sheds are fairly inexpensive and they may only get a small portion of the cost after the deductible. Then when its time to renew the policy the insurer will look at that claim when determining their rates.

You could find that your property building insurance will cover your shed. Our greenhouse was demolished in a recent storm and was replaced under the building insurance policy.

If she has home policy and it covers her home and other buildings she maybe able to claim. Have her check with the company but with her deductable it may not be worth it. You sound like your insurance is for a rental space as it is for contents only.

All policies are different for each customer. You tell the insurer what you want covered, and then make sure he shows you it in the policy. This is the ONLY way to be sure.

Some do cover the shed and its contents. Our old one did.

My current one doesn't, but thats because we've got lots of barns so all outbuildings are excluded because they are a bit ropy.

If you phone around, you can ask the berk on the phone to read the relavant section of the policy booklet. Try Norwich Union first.
