Is it possible to have porcupine puffer fish at home? Where can I read up on how to care for them and what they need if you want to have them at home?

I have one. You can keep more than one, however I wouldn't recomend it. They are very easy to keep and care for not to mentions adorable.

I have never had a porcupine puffer that wasn't sociable.

Word of caution, they will eat anything smaller than they are in the tank.

Ours has slightly cloudy eyes at school and the marine biology teacher said it wasn't a problem. This may not be your case but, every large porcupine puffer I've ever seen (7 inches or more) has had slightly cloudy eyes. If yours is pale (not just at night when fish naturally change color a bit) ask an expert at your local fish store! They will know whether it's ich or a parasite, or if it's nothing to worry about!

Puffer fish is solitary fish, so they have to live alone. You require at least a 140Gallon tank (5"x2"x2"), and has to be marine base.

Check out this site and search for puffer within:

Puffer fishes found in petshops are either sea water or brackish water

Puffers can be poisonous to eat but are not harmful otherwise. I have occasionally seen small ones for sale at a large aquarium store near here. The first thing you would need is a pretty good size marine aquarium, which is a major project in itself if you are not already experienced in marine aquaria.
