This is subjective. You will get many different answers. Try Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Kiss, AC/DC, Black Sabbath. For hair bands you can try Motley Crue & Poison. Then there is the inbetween of Bon Jovi & Def Leppard.

Rock - Definitely Led Zeppelin and NIN.
Metal - All you need to know is Slayer. I'd recommend starting out with their South of Heaven cd. Then Reign in Blood, Divine Intervention, Seasons in the Abyss and so on...

Some of my favorites are Nine Inch Nails, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Placebo, and Rammstein. Also, is it really that much harder to spell out an entire word than use a number or improper spelling?

Too me, you can't go wrong with Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Guns & Roses, & Kiss. All have greatest hits compilations to start with,
then you can go from there.
