Hey, this is a great topic, Bernie has been great for baseball, he's one of the few handful of players i say should get what this wish from a club. Think of all he has done in the past, those numbers do not lie. Especially look at what Bernie has done in the past couple of years, picking up the slack, and being the fill-in fourth outfielder. It's hard for a guy to do so well for so many years, and just be put on the bench. He did it without any complant. He deserves to have his number retired there beyond the outfield wall. The Yankees owe it to him, to sign him if he still wants to play. How can you not just release Carl Pavano? Old Bernie playing for me any day over Pavano sitting on his sore butt any day.

You are certainly not. Bernie Williams has contributed a lot to the Yankees. He was the last Yankee to win a batting title. I also don't want to see Bernie leave the Yankees. He was a Yankee since 1991 meaning that he was there the longest of any player currently on the roster. He does have a lot of fans. I like him as a player too. I really hope he doesn't leave either. Since he gave it his all for more than a decade, it would be an injustice if the Yankees allow him to leave.

Understand first that I really admire Bernie Williams. He's been steadfast with the Yankees and above board in everything he has done in pinstripes. He'll go down as a great Yankee.
That being said. I think it's time for Bernie to retire on his own. Yes he can still hit the ball but his fielding is bad and getting worse. With the Outfield set with Abreu Damon and Matsui and Cabrera as the 4th, theres no room to keep Bernie.
I just wish he would retire on his own.

Every great player will some day be let go. Bernie is a bit past his prime and if the Yanks want to keep up with Boston they will have to dowhat is best for the team. The Yanks own it to thier fans to put the most competitive team on the field that they can in hopes of rewarding the faithfull with yet another World Championship

It's a business, especially when it comes to the Yankees. Plus, Bernie can just retire right now and be a lifetime Yankee, but he still wants to play, so he may have to sacrifice for that right to play by playing for another team.

I feel that Bernie has been a great asset to the Yankees and yes he is their franchise player. His abilities have drastically decreased though. So the organization should offer him a coaching position, that way his knowledge will not be wasted. His time as a player is sadly gone.

I'm a Red Sox fan, but have the deepest respect for Bernie Williams. He (along with Jeter and Rivera) are the eptiome of a Yankee.
Sadly, father time spares no one, not even a legend. You can't justify sitting one of the younger guys for him anymore, and with the plans to use Giambi at DH, he can't help out much with his bat either.
So while it is pretty lousy, it is the natural order of things. In the end, I'm sure he'll show the same dignity and professionalism he always has.
