White people are the majority. They get privileges and oppertunities that the minorities will never get to fully recieve...all based on their race. We study "white history" all year long while I was in school. Why the hell do white people get upset when black history is just one month out of the entire year that is dedicated to the people that were enslaved in this country for 400 years and still struggle with adverseries today. I mean, is it in your damn nature to want to dominate and rule everything...without recognizing the accomplishments of others who are not in your group. What the hell else do you people want!!!

I'm not American, so I don't have the full insight into what goes into American education, but I propose that black history is something you can learn about or celebrate at any time (with or without the support of a school curriculum) as is the history of any other race. Personally, I think it would be more productive to provide ongoing education in all these areas than dedicating a mere month to black history, but I can't see why anyone would be upset about Black History Month existing. It is my belief that celebrating one's heritage is not a means for putting down anyone else's - it's an expression of acknowledgement and pride, and should be accepted as such. Don't be put off by the people who are offended by it. Try not to get upset (as you obviously are), and encourage them to see the positive side. If they're not responsive, pay no more mind to them. I think you'll find most of us don't think that way.

You figure the answer to that, child, and you'll have the key to eliminating racism forever. But you do yourself and us an injustice by implying that we are the only race to enslave others or to attempt to dominate and rule. If you think that, then your awareness of Black history is woefully inadequate and you need far more than a month in which to overcome that deficit. Who do you suppose sold the white slavers their victims? It was other Blacks, dear! It was quite rare for most of the years during which whites imported slaves from Africa for the white folks to actually go into the interior areas of Africa and capture people by themselves. Black kings and emperors waged war almost incessantly on the continent, attempting to seize and maintain dominance, and they commonly enslaved other Africans, slaughtered them wholesale and, when the Portuguese showed up with desirable trade goods, sold their subjugated neighbors eagerly.
Don't take this old Mick's word for it; he's a white man. Instead get busy and study the real history of Africa!

Sigh...my kids(yes, they are white) learn about history-making black people all school year long. Quit with the slavery thing already..I dont hear Jewish people going on and on about the Holocaust and blaming it on all that is wrong in their lives, do you? It happened a loooong time ago and for some reason no one seems to remember what the Civil War was for...helloooo..white Americans fighting other white Americans to end slavery in this country!
It is ridiculous when Black Americans go on and on complaining how they arent equal yet they seperate themselves with things such as Black History Month, Miss Black America Pageants, ***** College Fund, Black Entertainment TV, Ebony magazine, etc...

Well for starters, I'm not for it or against it. I do believe however the people that deserve it the most is the Native Americans though. Everyone came over and stole THEIR land and they were even nice enough to help us out, and in return for their good deeds we killed them. All of this was once THEIRS. What most fail to realize, is that the black slaves that came over where either sold to the white people by their government or came willingly. While no one should have been treated that way, I agree. I do feel like, of all races the Native Americans got the shortest end of the stick. I live in Lawrence, Kansas the home of Haskell Indian Nations University College, and if you read up about this place and how it got started, you would see that this college was actually at one time an Indian children concentration camp where Indian Children we stolen in the middle of the night from their parents moved into camps to "civilize" them into acting more white. They were beaten and killed and and 1000's of bodies of abused children were buried in a closed off basement. In a campus building. It has been locked and closed up for decades now. They made these children slaves too. I have only one sixteenth Native American blood. My best friend is half. I know many Indians in my town that are wonderful people and are still treated worse than blacks here today. My friend included. The amount of the population of homeless Indians in my community is 85%.Living in a town with such a huge Native American community, I feel as a whole, are treated worse than the African American community. I'm sure the reason that there is not a White history month is because of the fact white people in history have very little to be proud of. I also would be in support of reparations to the Indian community, as opposed to ancestors of slavery, as it was THEIR land in the first place. My reasons behind this is, because during the Civil War many whites also lost their lives and fought and shed their blood to free African Americans and their families payed the hefty price of loosing their loved ones. No one has ever brought up financially compensating the white families that gave their lives to make you free. However Indians are treated more as a second class citizen today, in my opinion, than African Americans. How Many Singers or movies stars are full blooded Indian? When you watch TV, You see an equal amount of balck and white sitcoms, and even a few Mexican. They have a mexican channel. But seriously what about the Indians, they are not walking the red carpets are they? Just remember that in life there are always people worse off than you when it comes to racism. Seriously, even though in the beginning you ancestors suffered, you still have a better life than you would have had in Africa were 80% of the population is dying of AIDS and starving to death in poverty, Is that what you'd rather have? Just look at you ancestors as proud warriors, that gave their life for YOU to have a better life than they did. ~Destiny

I am white and it does not bother me about black history month. but people like you need to get over it already, none of us were even alive at that time, so why are you so pissed off about it. the times have changed so get over it already. what went on back then is not our faults so take the chip off your shoulder and throw it out the window. because you are making yourself sound racist. there is all types of races that have problems in life not just black people. i mean your life is what you make of it. so i dont mean to sound rude but this question pissed me off, what happened in history happened so many years ago, that we have nothing to do with, its not my fault that you only have a month dedicated to blacks. if there was a white history month, you would be complaining too. there is other races and cultures that I had to learn about, and my son is learning in school. so what!!! if its a part of history then everyone should learn. its good for the mind. expand your brain!

Well first of all we don't get all of the privileges and opportunities....and it isn't white history all the other months because we talk about black people as well during those months. To me i don't think black history month is racist..but i really wish people would be intelligent about the situation and stop bring stuff like this up, some people think that all white people just because they are white think that black history month is racist...when that isn't true. But we don't get all the other months.......since that is what you are trying to say.

I think you better go back and check your sources about blacks never getting the same opportunities as whites. Today, it's much easier for a black man to buy a house than it is for a white man. It's also alot easier for them to get college scholarships and grants as a minority. I'm not being racist by any means. Just check your facts a little bit more.

I am not American and I do not understand why Ppl in the US are so racist. Why do u need to have black history month? Black history should be taught throughout the whole yr, just as white history is.

Hmm did you know that black people owned other blacks as slaves?! No i bet you didn't. dedicating a month to one race is RACIST! If we had a white history month and no black history month, black people would FLIP out!! AMERICAN history is just that. That is what our children should be learning in school!
