But Cutie Pie, why would it be racist if there is a BLACK history month? Isn't THAT racist?

i wish i knew. For a whole MONTH the kids learn and CELEBRATE black history. Why not just call it american history. It's not like we are teaching them about their native roots in Africa. All we are doing with this month is further expanding the gap between different races. American history is American history. PERIOD. We don't have enough months to honor everyone's history so why do the blacks think they are special?!

White history is taught all year around! Black history is only taught in February!! There is only 1 legal gov't black holiday-Dr. Martin L. King Day-the rest are "White Holidays" ! And no, I'm not a racist-all should be treated equal!!

Don't you know that when you study American history in high school and read about it in most American history books it is told in the point of view of the white man. And this point of view is somewhat skewed.

So the white man trying to bring things more into perspective allowed the celebration of these ethnic months so they can appease those they oppressed.

Because nobody really gives a care to have one... and besides it's a moot subject as 99% of written history is... you guessed it "white" history... So let the African American public have their month and try to get across to the general population their accomplishments in history... much of which has been long ignored...

Because most of the history in the history books is about white people.

Speaking as a "white" person, I feel there shouldn't be. We need to honor the African American People. They had to work hard to get the rights they have now. Take Rosa Parks and Dr. King. They both took MAJOR risks to stand up for what they believed in because people like us did not respect and treat them right. We tried to seperate them from eveything. And that was wrong. I think they should have a month honoring them and what they accomplished. JUST my thoughts.

Oh and as a teacher, we teach all about these special people to our students and the "history" of it all. We also have special programs to honor them. It is important.

There is. Aug, Sep, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, March, Apr, and May. Every month of school is when white history is discussed. Black history only lasts 1 month. That's not a lot.
