Dallas traffic is a Nightmare and I once drove all the way to the next city just to turn around!! Austin is for millionaires but it's lovely!! Houston is on the gulf and it wreaks havoc with humidity and your hair !! And San Antonio is Scorching Hot in the summer!! Now you decide!! Good Luck!! (Can you pick up a few things for me from the Galleria if you stop off in Dallas??) @8-)

I used to live in Dallas and now live in San Antonio. I visit Houston and Austin often. I would rank these cities:
1. Austin
2. San Antonio
3. Dallas
4. Houston
I like the music and art scene in Austin and I am a raging liberal, so I would fit in well there. The location is pretty, especially out in the hill country. I will say there are a lot of posers there.
San Antonio is great. Its a great location. You can get anywhere in Texas except the panhandle in a reasonable amount of time. I love the hispanic influence. There are fabulous restaruants and decent night life. And its not as hot as Dallas in the summer. The only downside for me is its rather conservative politically, being a military town.
Dallas is fun! I liked living there. There is good night life, good music, but traffic is dreadful. Its also too far from the beach!
I just dont care for Houston at all. Sorry Houstonians!

I'm going to have to say Houston. I've lived in San Antonio back in the 80s when it was "35 small towns in search of a city". I've lived in Austin, but it was way too liberal and what some called cool I called run down. I've visited Dallas often, and have nothing against it, but I prefer Houston. Besides, I met my wife here in Houston :)

I have lived in all three and I live in Dallas now. I hate Dallas, San Antonio is great, alot of fun and great food. The town is always partying. But when I retire I am going back to Austin. The music, the laid back atmosphere, more my style of living

San Antonio! Definately. I love it there.
There is so much to do for little to no money. There are things to do that require a lot of money. The climate is amazing. The people are awesome. It has something for every race, creed, color, religion, and social status.
They have the Alamo, the River Walk, Six Flags theme park, Sea World, a very nice zoo, loads of sporting events, pageants, malls...All that and it still doesn't SEEM like a big boisterous city.
If the Army would let me, I'd go back in a heartbeat!

if you're searching for 'large city' like NYC, you want Dallas, said by technique of Austin. in case you'll like a small city sense interior the eighth greatest city interior the US, then you genuinely flow for San Antonio. we are the biggest "small city" interior the US. i have lived in Austin, DallasFt worth and San Antonio. relies upon on your age as to what you want. 20-30 is Austin, 30-40 is DFW and 40+ i'd vote for San Antonio.

Austin by all means. I've lived there before ('79-'80) and loved it. Dallas is ok (even though I was born there). Houston is way too humid for me.
