Narcotics, alcohol and other intoxicants are very detremetnal to society. Look at all of the bad things that happen from alcohol consumption (deadly auto accidents, violance, sexual assault, poverty etc.). So I don't think doing drugs is either, 'living it up' or 'hiding from life' I belive that is very destructive.

Using illegal drugs is being stupid and irresponsible. It is a sign of weakness and can destroy a persons life and family. The same thing applies to alcohol use. A lot of people don't seem to realize that if they don't START then there wouldn't be a problem. Cigarette smoking is also a dangerous and deadly addiction that should not be started.

it depends on how you use it. i smoke weed but I'm not trying to hide from anything. i just do it cause i like it after a long day at work. smoke a blunt, get my jammies on and curl up with a blanket in front of the TV. watch a movie and relax. i don't smoke it to "live it up" or to "hide from life". i just enjoy doing it on occasion
