I'm confused about what my friend thinks of me. I've known him properly for about three months, and we generally hang around in a group. Sometimes I get the feeling he likes me. He looks at me and smiles at me a lot. He often sits next to me. If I'm talking to other people he often seems to be listening to what I'm saying, and sometimes joins in with the conversation, commenting on what I've said. He'll remember things I've said to him, or things I've said when he's around from weeks before. He'll always comes over and talk to me when he gets the chance, and sometimes when I'm talking to other people he'll hang around me, as if he wants to talk to me but doesn't have the chance to. He's generally quite shy, and doesn't give much away, so it's hard to tell what he's thinking. What signs should I be looking for? How can I tell whether it's just friendship he wants, or more?

Try asking directly. Ask him what he thinks of you and if he wants to develop anything more than you is already there between the 2 of you
From what I made out from your description he likes you.

Stand on a foggy hill in the middle of October at 5.24 in the morning. As soon as the next Sparrow-Hawk flies over you, cover yourself in chambourcey hippopottamousse and then sing the entire score of HMS Pinafore backwards. Then an image of Leo Sayer will appear and if he sings 'you make me feel like dancing' at you then the boy is enamoured by you and loves you nearly as much as he loves origami.

Alternatively, you could just talk to him more, pay him more attention and then you will find out. But, you have to know in yourself if you want more than friendship with this chap. Best of luck.

Why do young women do this to themselves? And I've known some grown women who do it too?

Look, if you want to know what somebody is thinking, you have to talk to them.... a lot and often. You build trust over time by your actions and integrity. If your words, actions, and emotions are all alligned and consistent, then you have integrity.

Stop trying to be a mind reader and get a grip. Humans can't read minds, there are no unicorns, and your mom and dad were giving you those presents, not Santa Claus.

This guy displays qualities of a perfect boyfriend.

with a boyfriend, these qualities dissappear, with a friend they last almost forever.

what you need to decide is what you want from him and whether what you want is worth risking losing a friend for.

Wait until he specifically tells you how he feels as you may have got the wrong end of the stick and you will lose a friend. He doesn't seem shy from what you are saying so I don't think you will have to wait long for him to tell you whats on his mind.

if you leave it for long enough you and the person may know you both like each other and not do out then it will get too familiar and itll feel weird to start some thing . either that or you wont want to ruin you friendship by beginning something...
good luck and say something soon!

your friendship is very young, give another few more mouths, and if nothing changes, then what you see is what you get. Good luck.
