The Oxford English Dictionary does not have an entry for "aardvark".
It does mention the animal you're talking about, but it spells it differently.
The entry is for "aard-vark", with a hyphen in it.

(Pallas, 1766)
The Aardvark (Orycteropus afer; sometimes called "antbear")[1] is a medium-sized mammal native to Africa. The name comes from the Afrikaans/Dutch for "earth pig" (aarde earth, varken pig), because early settlers from Europe thought it resembled a pig. However, the Aardvark is not closely related to pigs.
