I need a topic to do a paper on for my American History class. The paper has to be 1,500 words so the topic can't be too specific. The topic can't be current either.

Why not do a paper on the way that certain events in American History have affected the way (and world) we live in today? There's an old saying that 'those who forget the past are doomed to relive it', show a connection to past events, wars or even individuals and the way that the country and the world were affected by them.
