Who makes game cheats?

Do the game designers create the cheats secretly and then leak them after the game has come out?

Are the game manufacturers annoyed when cheats are made or are they not bothered?

Most cheats are made by the programmers to allow the game to be tested - so testers can get right through the game with infinite lives, or jump to a particular level to test it.

Sometimes -usually - the testers tell their friends, and the information finds its way to the 'net, and sometimes people spend hours and days finding them for themselves. I think the view of the manufacturers is that so long as people pay for the game, they can play it properly or cheat (ie cheat themselves out of the experience, the challenge they've paid for), whichever floats their boat!

Nobody else can "put in" cheats, because you can't change the code once it's written and compiled. Sometimes they are unauthorised, and put in for a laugh, or by a disgruntled employee.
