Don't know if I've got 15, but here's a few:

Buy used cars. The 20-30% depreciation that occurs immediately once a new car leaves the lot is a ridiculous price to pay. Don't buy an extended warranty unless you feel you wouldn't be able to pay for a major repair out of pocket. Actuarially, they're not worth it.

Buy generic brands. With some food items, you may find a slight reduction in quality, but not significant and sometimes not at all. With OTC drugs, there is NO difference. If a chemical compound is essentially identical, it will have the same results.

Take a close look at your spending. Record ALL of your discretionary spending for a week, or better, a month. You'll be amazed at how much you probably spend on trivial things you could easily do without. Starbucks? It doesn't end with "bucks" for nothing.

I may add to the list as I think of things, but need to move on with my day. Good luck.

You don't need 15 things, just a few will work great.
1) Pack a lunch and cook your dinner. Stop going out to the restaturant over 4-5 times a month. It is lot cheaper and you will have home cooked healthy meal.

2) Buy items you will need at the time when it goes on sale and stock it, if it is not perishable item. Buy generic instead of brand names, buy them at thrift stores.

3)Lower your heater by few degrees in the winter (believe me, you won't die just by lowering about 5 degrees) and increase your A/C about 3-5 degrees at summer. Turn it off completely, if you are not going to be home for a long time or lower your thermostat considerably. Cancel your cable, if you can or get just the basic channels. If you have cell phone and land lines, cancel land line phone.

4) Car pool or ride a bike, or even walk (good for your health) to work and back unless it is 10 miles away. Use unleaded gas, instead of premium.

5)Don't buy anything that you just "want," buy things that you need and are essentials, or you can't live without it.

6) Besides your regular job, find an extra part time job, work extra hours, on weekends. Earn more, or try to sell something online, like on ebay where you can make more money.

7)Quit smoking and drinking, if you do.

Good luck!

just a few ideas:

1. Shop at a discount grocery store. (Sav-a-lot, Aldi's, etc) You'd be suprised at how much you save simply from buying generic brands instead of name brands.

2. Get rid of things in your life that aren't necissary. You don't need that phone at home if you only use your cell. Do you really need the huge lineup of channels on your cable? Stop paying someone to mow your lawn when you can do it yourself. Stuff like that. If you're REALLY trying to save money, getting rid of extra stuff will be worth it when you see your bank statement.

3. When you purchase something with your debit card, round up to the next number. If it's 2.48, round it up to 3. At the end of the month you have all of that "spare change" saved up in the bank. You'll be suprised how quickly it adds up.

4. Give yourself an allowance. When I cash my paycheck I pull out like $50 and tell myself I have to use this for "fun money" and the rest I can't touch (and only use for bills, gas, etc) That way I'm alot more careful with my money instead of just swiping my debit card wherever I go.

5. Car Pool if you can. It'll save you a ton on gas.

6. Take your lunch to work. Seriously, I spend SO much money going out to eat when I'm at work, when it would be so easy to just bring something. It's much cheaper to buy groceries and make stuff yourself than it is constantly go out to eat. Sure it's nice sometimes, but not every day. It's insane how much you can spend in a week's time on lunch alone.

7. Set up an automatic withdrawal of funds from your checking into your saving. If you have someone else do it, and you know it's going to happen, it'll be alot easier. It'll get done once a month or every two weeks regardless of wether you remember or not.

8. Consolidate your bills if you can. If you have a ton of credit cards, try to get a loan. Pay off all of your credit cards and then just make one payment. That'll save you time and money on interest. Not everyone can do that, of course, but if you can it's worth it.

Don't spend any in the first hour of the day. Don't spend any in the second hour of the day. And so forth until the fifteenth hour of the day. Then pat yourself on the back and go to bed.
