The mainstream Filipino movies are hopelessly stuck in a rut. Last time I checked, it's the same formulaic boy-meets-girl, boy-sings-and-dances- with-girl, boy-shags-and-leaves- the-girl storylines. As long as pedestrian people like Carlo Caparas, Mother Lily and Robbie Tan are allowed to produce movies, the Philippine movie industry will never be able to reach its full potential. And politicians must definitely be kept out of it. ENTENG KABISOTE 3 as Best Film in the MMFF, anyone?
But there's hope, people. The independent/digital film industry are making films that are off the beaten track. Films like KUBRADOR, ANG PAGDADALAGA NI MAXIMO OLIVEROS, MAGNIFICO, and the like are showing the way. These excellent films are living proof that one does not have to be expensive and special effects-laden to captivate and touch the imagination of moviegoers. Fortunately, people like Tikoy Aguiluz, Lav Diaz, etc have not forgotten that the heart of it all is the story. The rest are mere trimmings on the cake.
As a rule, I do not buy pirated CD's of LOCAL films, music or otherwise. In my opinion, the Philippine movie industry will continue to suffer from problems of piracy if they do not admonish theater managers to lower their admission prices. It has been steadily increasing over the years to the point of ridiculousness. I won't pay P160 just to watch a crappy movie (and there are a LOT of crappy movies out there, make no mistake about it). Something drastic must be done to alleviate or solve this problem.
But I'm not holding my breath.

i do get your point but it's a bit hard to decipher your sentences..
the film industry is facing some problems such as low budget, not enough support from the government but their are many independent film makers or producers out there who try to come up with good quality films. these are the ones we call indie films and they're making it to the mainstream now and being shown to many countries as well. that's a good start i think.
