With the truth - the person taking the complaint should Listen ,take notes and then tell the complaint-ant that the problem will be looked into and an answer will be returned within 48 hrs or sooner if possible. then thank the complainant for the update and assure he/she that they will be informed of the method of resolution.

If they start screaming and swearing , you have the right to say to them "if you can't talk to me without screaming and/or swearing, I will hang up". But try to find out what the problem is, in a soft tone. Sometimes that calms them down.
