Sports, work, school, etc. Not a "habit" or "routine" per se, but just being consistent in general. I'll use Sports and music as two quick examples. I skateboard, but I am never consistent with my progression or even with some of the tricks I do. I can do them one day, and totally forget how to do them hours later. I also play bass guitar, but I am inconsistent with the way I play.

I know the short answer to the question is 'practice', but being inconsistent while practicing makes me feel like I'm learning things the wrong way.

PRACTISE PRACTISE PRACTISE

Its human nature to be INCONSISTENT but to be professional means that you have to be CONSISTENT. Look at any of your idols and you'll find consistency in what they do and how they do it. They didn't become professional by being inconsistent ... they paractised, practised, practised i.e.

Tiger Woods: picked up a golf club from his dad at 3yo and consistently practised (even today) to become what he is today

Tony Hawke: picked up a skateboard and consistently practised (even today) and taught himself new tricks to get to where he is now

Michael Peter Balzary: picked up a bass guitar and consistently practised and became one of the best who was picked up by and still is the bass player for the Red Hot Chili Peppers ... Flea

However, being inconsistent is something we all have to put up with but forcing ourselves to be consistent like the people in the examples above can lead to great success in life. Even if our practises in a given task is inconsistent if we still do it anyway it will can maintain our consistency in that given task.
