I currently live in the Ft.Lauderdale area.
I have lived in Charlotte

Pros for living in Ft.Laud.
The crime is LOWER in Ft.Lauderdale (go figure)
The tropical weather is nicer in Ft.Lauderdale. It's 79 day/65 night today in Ft.Lauderdale, and it's 43 day/25 night in Charlotte today.
The beaches are fantastic.
I'm in the best shape of my life because there is so much to do outside here.
No state tax
Fantastic neighborhoods here.
Fantastic shopping centers.
Always something to see or do here or in Miami, just down the road.
Summer in Charlotte is HOTTER than Summer in Ft.Laud
Even in the hottest weather you have an ocean breeze.

Pros for Charlotte
People tend to be a little bit nicer (southern charm)
Less traffic on the Interstates
More family oriented
Lower cost of housing
Not close to beach (5 hour drive) but closer to Foothills/Mountains (less than 2 hour drive.)

Orlando? I have friends in Orlando. Higher crime rate, land locked, VERY hot / less Ocean breeze, heavy traffic

Not familiar with Houston, but I know they have a high crime rate.

Good luck in your decision.

It has been a while since I lived in Houston, but Texas used to have no state income tax, car insurance was high, but housing was on the cheaper side. Houston is a fun city, and so is Dallas. I never lived in Dallas, but my sister did for a several years and I visited often. Dallas is less humid than Houston, but the cost of housing was a bit more expensive at that time. I've never lived in Phoenix or Orlando, so can't say much about them. My choice would be a Houston or Dallas.

Charlotte.

Orlando is too hot. land locked in Florida is no place to be.

Ft. Lauderdale would be a close 2nd. not a lot wrong with that choice, other than i lived there, and didn't enjoy it.

Houston? Too big, too hot, WAY too much crime.

Charlotte. GREAT economy, (Growing daily), great place to raise a family, nice weather, and a LOT to do outdoors (Ocean close by, but also hiking, hills, mountains, etc). Charlotte is the best choice.

you can thank the yellow dog talking heads of the media for 'the high crime rate' and for the open doors policy of your government in Houston.
you don't say what your looking for so what i like about Houston really does not matter to you.
if your looking to make a finacially secure future
'go west youngester' . if partying is your goal it's a wide open city.
