Does anyone know if spybot search and destroy is prone to giving a lot of false positives, It always says ive got something, but ive tried several others and nothing, so im not sure which one i should be using, i have ad aware and like it.

Spybot consistently receives high marks in independent tests. Considering the price, it's a real bargain. But yes, it can give a lot of false positives, especially if your hard drive is included in the Download Directories setting.

Also bear in mind that there is no antispyware program, no antivirus program, no anti-anything program that is 100% effective 100% of the time. New threats seem to appear hourly and updates to various products occur at different times. So today Ad-Aware might find something that Spybot misses, and next week Webroot Spy Sweeper might find something they both miss. There's nothing wrong having two or more anti-whatever programs available. My only suggestions: Keep them all updated and run only one at a time to avoid possible conflicts and crashes.

False positives:not uncommon! But, lot of: that is not common!
